Two Out of Three US Households Own a Pet
Humans Outnumber Dogs 4 to 1

Two out of three American households own a pet, with 85% of pet owning
homes owning either a dog or a cat...or both.

Cats are a bit more numerous, with the ratio of cats to dogs coming in at about 1.1 -
this translates to about 8.2 million more cats than dogs!

On the other hand, humans outnumber dogs by about 4 to 1, while outnumbering
cats by about 3.5 to 1.

Note that this only includes dogs and cats that are officially "owned" by a household and does not count the millions of stray dogs and cats, nor those in shelters or uncared for by a human owner.
